Cerebritis

What Is It?

Cerebritis is an inflammation of the brain tissue itself, generally caused by infection by a bacteria. It is the early stage of infection in which the bacteria is first growing in the brain tissue, leading to inflammation of the brain and infiltration by immune system cells (white blood cells).

This type of brain infection is generally thought to be a preliminary stage of infection that, if not diagnosed and treated at this early stage, will progress to a brain abscess. The risk factors, symptoms and treatment options are therefore similar to those of cerebral abscess.
